we are you.

The 5.8 Alpine Mountain Fun Institute includes anyone who enjoys escaping to special places outdoors in order to do whatever makes them happy. Our name is homage to a moderately difficult but committing form of rock climbing, we believe this line exists in most pursuits but is under-represented on the Internet and social media. While epic first ascents and cutting-edge accomplishments will always find their way into the public consciousness, 5.8AMFI aims to give the mere mortals among us a space to share stories of climbs, hikes, skis, runs, and travel. We’re into human-powered activity, weekend warriors, cruxing on 5.9+, bushwacks, warm fingers and toes, not being benighted, summits, planning for summits, late alpine starts, instant coffee, post-activity beverages, the stories our adventures produce, and the memories we keep forever.

The 5.8 Alpine Mountain Fun Institute is open to those interested in sharing everyday accomplishments in the mountains through trip reports, essays, and pictures. We are a repository of achievement, accessible to all, a source of inspiration, stoke, and fun.
